YOUR FIRST VISIT
Our first visit with you is an important appointment. We’ve tried to make your initial appointment as simple and straightforward as possible while giving you all the information you need to make proper choices concerning your dental needs.
First, we’ll need some information about you. Please arrive 15 minutes early so the front desk staff can gather your information in the reception area with a short questionnaire. Better yet, go to our New Patient Forms page and get ahead start on all of this.
Next you’ll meet our clinical team members. Our dental assistant will take a series of digital x-rays and intra-oral photographs so we can document the current condition of your teeth. Dr. Buxton will review all the information we’ve acquired and use it to show our findings throughout the exam. We’ll discuss joint problems, assess the condition of your teeth, evaluate your gums, complete an oral cancer screening, and more. Once we’ve thoroughly evaluated your mouth you’ll have some time to discuss any questions you might have with Dr. Buxton.
Lastly, you’ll meet one of our hygienists, who will clean your teeth and provide additional insight into the health of your gums and other tooth-supporting tissues. The hygienist will likely give custom-fit pointers on how you can best take care of your teeth or improve your oral hygiene and provide some sample products to get you started on your way.
Finally, you’ll pay another visit to the front desk where we’ll carefully go over the financial aspects and scheduling of any dental treatment. If you have dental insurance, we’ll do our best to provide the most accurate estimate of insurance benefits. If you don’t have insurance, not to worry. We have many options to make treatment affordable and convenient for all patients. Go here to learn more.
That’s about it! We do our best to review all your options and provide you the knowledge and information you’ll need to make further decisions about your treatment plan. Feel free to contact us at any time so we can clarify any questions you might have.

FIRST VISITS FOR CHILDREN
If your child is visiting our office for the first time, you can expect much of the same with just a few differences:
- We’ll spend some extra time explaining all the new objects and procedures your child will be encountering.
- Our main objective is to make a child’s first visit pleasant so they can begin a lifetime of anxiety-free dental care.
- In general, the appointments take about half the time as an adult appointment would.
- After a successful visit, we’ll make a stop by our treasure chest for a prize. Kids only – sorry adults!
