For many patients, sedation dentistry makes the impossible possible. If you feel that you need help relaxing enough to adequately receive dental treatment be sure to let us know. We offer more than one form of sedation:
Nitrous Oxide – Commonly called laughing gas, nitrous oxide is one of the longest used forms of sedation available. Nitrous oxide is incredibly safe and effective. A small nasal hood is lightly placed so that you can breath the gas in through your nose. It only takes a couple minutes for it to take effect and we can raise or lower the amount of laughing gas in order to find your proper comfort level. Once you are finished, the gas is breathed off very quickly and the effects reversed. You’ll be fully capable of driving yourself home if desired. For minimal dental anxiety, nitrous oxide is the best solution.
IV Sedation – If your dental fears or anxieties are more incapacitating than the average person, you’re not alone. Many patients need this stronger method of sedation to ensure their dental appointment is a possibility.
IV sedation goes by many names such as ‘sleep dentistry’, ‘conscious sedation’, or ‘twilight sedation’. The terms may seem conflicting, and yes, some are misleading. Some patients do fall asleep while under this form of sedation, but our goal is to keep you conscious. You’ll be so relaxed that you’ll hardly notice the dental work you’ll be having done and you won’t remember the experience afterwards.
This type of sedation is typically used for patients with powerful dental fears or for more involved treatments like wisdom teeth removal. We must first review your medical history in depth because there are some contraindications for IV sedation. If your health is in question, you may require the help of a specialist or hospital-based setting to make sedation a reality. If sedation seems appropriate for you, please make an appointment so we can discuss it further.
