Teeth Whitening in Fort Collins, CO

Professional teeth whitening is one of the fastest and easiest ways to improve the appearance of your smile. Whitening is such a popular procedure that there are numerous methods to choose from for achieving a white, bright smile.

Teeth whitening kit | Fort Collins CO DentistNatural teeth come in all different colors.

No matter what color you start with, however, teeth naturally change in color as we age. They are always subject to staining from the foods and drinks we consume. Some of the worst culprits are the things we ingest the most often, such as coffees and dark teas.

The type of whitening procedure that is best for you depends on the type and degree of discoloration you’re experiencing. For example, some stains we are born with, and others we acquire. These stains can be part of the tooth structure or just on the outer surface of your teeth. Some discolorations are simple to correct; others can be very challenging.

At Buxton Family Dental, we offer several different teeth whitening techniques to meet the various needs of our patients.

Take-Home Whitening Trays

The most popular whitening method involves the fabrication of whitening trays that are custom fit to your mouth.

To make the trays, all we need is an impression of your teeth. This process requires less than 30 minutes in our office, followed by a few days for us to make your trays.

We use a variety of whitening systems, such as KöR Whitening and Ultradent Opalescence, which includes prescription-strength whitening gel that you place in the trays at your convenience. Wear the trays for about 30 minutes each day. How long you bleach depends on how stained your teeth are and how white you’d like them to become, but the average case takes a couple of weeks. Different people experience different levels of sensitivity when bleaching, which can also limit the frequency of your tray use and the strength of your whitening solution.

In-Office Whitening

Woman Having Her Teeth Whitened | Dentist Ft. Collins COYou may have seen ads promising white teeth with one visit to your dentist. While this is certainly possible, the desired effect is rarely achieved that simply. However, in-office whitening can accelerate the process and provide a safer environment for stronger solutions that take-home trays won’t allow. This treatment usually takes a little more than an hour to complete at our Fort Collins dental office.

We offer the very popular KöR Whitening system. First, we paint a barrier gel along your teeth that protects your gums. Next, the whitening gel is applied and allowed to sit for about 20 minutes. We remove the gel, the results are evaluated, and the process is repeated as needed.

Results are more immediate with in-office whitening procedures, but we always require follow-up home bleaching with trays for optimal results.  For this reason, custom-made whitening trays and take-home bleaching solution are provided for each of our patients at no extra charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

A great smile can have a huge impact on your life. There are various ways to improve the color, shape or alignment of your teeth. Here are a few of the treatment options we offer here at Buxton Family Dental.

Teeth Whitening: Do your teeth seem naturally darker than other people's teeth? Have your teeth turned a darker color over the years? Do "whitening" toothpastes not seem to have any effect? This is often solved with a simple professional whitening treatment. Learn more about how we can brighten your smile here.

Bonding: If your teeth are minimally chipped, damaged or needing reshaped, cosmetic bonding is the quickest, most affordable and most conservative option. Using tooth-colored filling material your front teeth can be improved in just one visit.

Veneers: Veneers are more expensive, require removal of more tooth structure and take more time, but the result is a life-like, long-lasting smile. Veneers are custom made out of ceramic by a dental lab and replace the outer most layer of your visible teeth.

Crowns: If your teeth have had more significant damage from wear, cavities, etc. the above options may not provide enough strength. Full coverage crowns can achieve your cosmetic goals while reinforcing your teeth at the same time. These too are made by a dental lab and require more than one appointment.
